Anybody still make ejectorless "sheriff's models"?
« on: January 31, 2012, 05:49:34 PM »
Is there still anybody who manufactures 3" barrel, ejectorless "sheriff's model" Colt clones in .44WCF (.44-40)? All I can seem to find at places like EMF and Cimarron is the 3-1/2" barrel with the ejector rod, and most are in .45 Colt, which is not my caliber of choice. I'm trying to keep it well under $1,000 as well, which rules out USFA and Colt. Can somebody please point me in the right direction? I'm hoping to use my tax return this year for this...

If you rule out USFA and Colt, I can't think of any.  Cimarron does have the 3 1/2" in 44-40, but hasn't carried the 3" ejectorless for maybe 10 years.  Just keep your eye out for a used one, I guess.

Mine is a 3 inch 44-40 made by McAllen firearms Co.  Gone out of buisness long ago.  Did I say "made by"?  Pobably imported from Italy by, is more correct.  I like the gun.  Bought it used at a gun show years ago but I ain't too accurate with it.   ::)

I picked this one up last summer.  It's Colt.  Paid a bit more than your dollar limit, but it's well worth it.

The Colt is nice, but again way outside my price limit. I figure my choices are going to be either (a) buy a "New Sheriff's Model" with a 3.5" barrel and ejector in .44-40, or (cheaper route), "bite the bullet", go with .45 Colt, and buy an R&D conversion cylinder and a factory cut-down barrel for my Pietta 1860 Army repro (which would give me the option of shooting cartridge or cap 'n' ball plus a choice of barrel lengths). Or, keep my eyes peeled for a used Uberti/Cimmaron sheriff's model in .44-40.

Probably Allen Firearms.  They were an Uberti importer and were bought out by Cimarron when the owner died and his son wasn't into the business.

Yup Abilene... I believe it's Allen - (early Alzhiemers)   ::)  I knew it was an import 'cause it's got all them Italian proof marks all over it.   ;)
