I guess I'm "losing it"  I was trying something with this thread and I must have deleted the whole thing or it has been lost to Cyberspace or somewhere where I can't find it

So, anyway,  I will try to reconstruct the original thread as best I can.  My apologies to Preston County Rider and Shenandoah for losing your posts; Marshal Deadwood, your ad may have been better served in the CAS Classified Section

Initially, Preston Country Rider started this thread by posting the following brochure from Armi Sport/Chiappa Firearms and Taylor's regarding new models of firearms and was especially interested in changes to the 1861 Spencer Rifle (defabed was a spelling error, should have read defarbed), and later Shenandoah posted about changes to the 1865 Spencer carbine; the photo now shows what appears to be a Stabler Cutoff, and front strap holder/pin added to the Spencer Carbine.  See the brochure below:





So, I Emailed a representative of Armi Sports/Chiappa Firearms for an update on any changes to the Spencer Firearms and received the following reply:

Dear Fred/Two Flints,

We have no detailed information at the moment about that specific version, we just started working on it few days ago.

I am not personally working on the changes needed on our present Spencer production, so I need to ask what it was accomplished and what is still to be done.

I will give you an update on both models as soon as possible.

So, there is nothing to report on any changes to the Spencers coming from Italy.  As soon as I hear of any changes I will let the SSS posse know.

I just asked if the new carbines would have the front sling and a Stabler cutoff since the pictures seems to show these additions. You later replied with an answer from the company that said they would check into it since things are still on the drawing board.

At least that's my recollection.

I'm not quite certain of this - but it's my understanding that while 'de-farbing' is common amongst individual owners, the importer can't remove 'country of origin' markings on what he's imported.

I know this is true with all the repatriated Garands and Carbines of a few years back, but it 'may' have more to do with cartrridge weapons.

This begs the question - if Taylor's can de-farb - why don't they just import the things sans markings and eliminate additional handling and refinishing?

Food for thought, I suppose.

Import laws require all goods be marked with point of origin.

Indeed - and that's why I wondered how Taylor's can do it, since they're the importer, and from what I know, they can't remove markings, where the purchaser can.
