Found this while browsing and thought it might have a use for leather work??  My first thought was a manual clicker or even large embossing press.  It would be a bit slow in use but if the strength is there it could perform several interesting chores.  With the right type of rubber padding, it could be used for pressure shaping pouches, sheaths and holsters and I like the style better than that of a converted hydraulic press stand.  Just some thoughts??   http://www.ebay.com/itm/Antique-Cast-Iron-Book-Binding-Press-/120799661376?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c20388d40#ht_500wt_1202

Rick, I was using a pair of boards to press the laminations together, using big wood clamps, for lined holsters with or without metal inserts.  I actually thought one of these might work quicker for that, but alas, my shop is so junked up already that I will never dig it out!

How many here are woodworkers, metalworkers, welders as well?  Anyway, you can get a veneer screw for cheap in most woodworking catalogs.

None the less that ebay deal is a nice piece, and I would snap it up, for something...

One trick to speed those deals up.  When they have a retention acorn nut, you get a socket to fit and a driver to fit your cordless drill, then you can spin it up and down at warp speed.  The hand wheel for final pressure is actually quite sensitive.  I cut my driver out of an extender, but it seems to be a standard item these days.  Makes a good expedient power feed for various machine tools.
