I recently purchased a tool that was described as a patented leather skiving tool and when it arrived I could not figure it out beyond the fact that it looked like a small version of some old razors like we used back in the middle ages.  It did have a legible patant number on it so I Googled it.  Turned out I was close to right, it was patented as a body hair razor way back when.  Since I like my underarms the way they are I threw it away and considered it as a $10 Ebay learning experience!
