How close is a Ruger Old Army to a 1858 Remington in size?

I have a request to build some holsters for a 7.5" fixed sight ROA, and I dont have one.

BUT I do have an 1858 Rem with fixed sights, as well as one with adjustable. How does the size compare?
I will be building Will G.s' Jesse James pattern holsters.

Should I use the top half of the Ruger Vaquero pattern to get the frame width, and the bottom of the 1858 for the barrel and combine the two patterns into 1?

I know of 1 in town, and its adjustable sighted.
Thanks,

Dalton, if you do not get an answer from someone who knows off the top of their head, I own an ROA and I also have WG's Jesse James pattern pack.  I would be happy to pull all of them out and see what holster pattern or portionis of different holster patterns will fit the ROA among the various holster options included with the Jesse James packet.  Either PM me that you would like for me to do that or I will watch this thread from time-to-time.  Good luck and I look forward to seeing pics of the result.

That would be great Long Juan. Lets see what the others say before you go to the effort though.
Thanks a million.

I just stuffed my adjustable sight ROA into an 1858 Holster (Uberti - fixed sight) that I did a while back and it fit perfectly.

My New Vaquero's do not fit into it all all.

If it were me though, I would ask to borrow the ROA in question before I started cutting leather.

Dalton Masterson

Yep, if that was an option, I would have it in hand. Its in Colorado though, and headed to TX sometime soon. I am in Nebrasky.
I could make one and send it for a test fit.

knucklehead

i have 2 ruger old armies and 1 1858. the old armies are bigger than my 1858.
i used the ruger vaquero 7 1/2 barrell pattern  from will g's pattern pack and the old armies fit like a glove.
which is great for me due to having 2 ruger vaqueros i dont have to change holsters to switch between guns.

this is a holster from one of will g's pattern pack that i designed that toolling and added spots to it.

Thats good info guys. Thanks.
I think the pard is going to send an ROA my way, and I shouldn't have to worry about it now.
Thanks for the help.

Below is a picture of my Frontiersman gun leather.  I shoot both Ruger Old Armies and 1858 Remingtons using this rig.  The Rugers are a bit larger but both work well with it.

I've got some holsters that I've used both in but the Remingtons will be a little looser.
