So my 2 ½" barrel Colts New Service would be a "pocket pistol"?

Johnson Barr

So called legal 'Pocket Pistol's' are described as any approved pistol in an approved caliber with a 4" or shorter barrel. So if you are willing to chop your Colt Walker barrel down to 4" you would have a legal 'pocket pistol'.
Damn stupid foolishness ain't it?

I think we need to look into better defining a pocket pistol.  My 3 1/2" First Model Dragoon fits the description, but I guarantee you I would not carry it around in my pocket.  J. Barr, why don't you look into a better definition to be presented at the next meeting of Congress.

Under the present rules it would. Years ago when we held the National shoot at Ackley IA the only stipulation was that the gun fit in your pocket.  We had few "Gamer" types in those days so most understood what the intent was.

JW, it was many years ago, but it was based on shooting from the movie. We shoot a buffalo gun at like 200-300 yds,
laid down and shot a Henry off your dead horse at 100 yds, shot clay birds with your shotgun, and shot a moving steel
plate with your pistol. Hopefully someone else will help remember, that was at it. I had LOTS of misses but it was
definitely different and a blast. Did I mention that between that shoot and the movie, I had to buy a Henry

If we are going to continue talking about the Lonesome Dove shoot maybe we ought to start a new thread. (Sounds like a fun topic)  Years ago "The Shootist" had a section that had shooting stages.  I remember that several of the LD shoot stages were written up in this section.  They looked like fun but all of us were 20 years younger and more limber.

I have a great match pirates in the old west that I would be happy to share with anyone.  It does take several props to be done right.  SASS shooters hated it because it required props and interaction rather than "beep.  bang bang bang...."

The match is called "Jack Leg, Pirate of the Prairies".  If I can find the softcopy, I will send it to anyone that asks me for it.  It was a lot of fun.
