Side Match - Long Range Pistol Question

Many of the annual matches I attend have a long range pistol side match.  I'm thinking I want/need a pistol set up for just that use – long range (50 yards or so).  Possible candidates are a Ruger Blackhawk or maybe a S&W New Model # 3 in 38sp.  Has anyone shot the S&W New Model # 3 in38sp at long range and how did it do?
