I am so new at this I squeek ...

So if I say 'Send me a PM to let me know how it works out', I mean it.

I think I have an old Pedersoli Cap N ball .50 cal that uses .490 balls  .... I might try it too!
My moniker is my great grandfather's name. He served with the 2nd Florida Mounted Regiment in the Civil War. Afterward, he came home, packed his wife into a wagon, and was one of the first NorteAmericanos on the Frio River southwest of San Antonio ..... Kinda where present day Dilley is ...

Old method, put your ball between two pieces of steel and roll back and forth with top piece while pressing down elongating your ball and reducing the diameter a little.Quarter by one and a half or two inch flat stock, scraps 6 or 8 in long works pretty good.Remember the bore your forcing into is aprox. .450 the groove depth is .458.

.490 - .450 = .040            45/70
.451 - .421 = .030            .44 Spec / Mag

Really only dealing with .010 more ball with the .490 in the 45/70.

Really do like the rolling between plates suggestion and may well use that for .30 Cal bore.  Using a .32 ball did not leave much of an area to mic.

Might start using egg sinkers in those.
