Grip refinishing for a Uberti Schofield

I decided to sand down my grips on my new Schofield because they were biting the middle of my palm during cocking and dry fire. I started with 120 grit and finished with 220 grit sandpaper. The offending bite is now gone and the gun handles almost too well.  I am now humbly soliciting suggestions for a stain to refinish the sanded areas. I have attached pictures for the enjoyment of fellow tinkerers. Thanks in advance.

You may get lucky by using one of those small bottles of "scratch repair", which typically come in different colors.  You can't make it lighter, really, but several applications may make it darker or help to blend it with the rest of the grips.  I'd use low-gloss Tung Oil for a finish, as I don't like the slick or shine of TruOil.  But that is also a good finish, and you can dull it down some.

Pictures of it mounted. I think the re-contoured  areas need a good rubbing down to get the excess stain off and polish them up a bit. You tell me.

If it was me, I'd try some steel wool to see if rubbing it lightly helped it match better.
