What is the recommended ball size for Old Army Rugers,  .44cal and .45cal.?   What about conicals?

Jubal Starbuck

I got mine new in 1975 and I have always fired .457 round ballls and .456 Lee conicals in it.  The 3rd edition of" Gun Digest Black Powder Loading Manual"  lists .457's also on page 310.  I've never known any of the other Old Army owners in my area to use any other size.  Enjoy!

By jolly Jubul...me thinks your right ! my mind was not as clear as I thought.. :-\
I think it was .457
so I retracted my .454 comment .. DHO !
when planets align...do the deal !

Pappy Myles

457 on the round bally.  Hornaday makes one just for the ROA.
Dick Dasdardly has a conical mold in his big lube bullets.  Mine cast out around 210 grains and I throw them thru my star sizer at .454 with SPG lube.  They work great.  There is a small rim at the base of the bullet so you can use them in 45 colt cartridges, scofield, and even in the 45 Auto.    These can be sized easily 452 for colt cartridges in my vaquaros, 452 in my 45 auto, 454 in my ROA
