Just had delivered a beautiful M1850 Staff Officer Sword.  Made in India by Windlass Steelcraft, the longtime supplier to the British army, combat rated by Royal Army sword proof.

Yes, would have liked a US made Sword, but the only real volume producer of swords in this country is Cold Steel, who unfortunatly do not make a staff officer sword, though they do other excellent reproductions (Got to get their cutlass someday)  and you can find all their products on the above site as well.  Windlass is the only overseas manufacturer I really trust.

KofA has excellent prices, and a low price garuntee.  Everything is listed and typed (Costume/battle ready/stage usage etc.)

And I know, it should be the M1872, but no one really liked that issue, most officers continued to carry the 1850 if they could, and no one makes a reproduction of the 1872 today.  Heck, when the US army reauthorized dress swords for staff a couple of years ago, they specified the 1850!

I agree with Windlass Cutlery being top stuff, but shop around.  Atlanta Cutlery carries them and sometimes has a sale with some great bargains.

I got my Marine NCO sword from them for about $90 below cost because of an overstock.  A year later my wife got an Army officers' saber for around $70 off for the same reason.
People like me are the reason people like you have the right to bitch about people like me.

Oh I agree, Atlanta Cutlery is very good, in fact I bounced their price to KofA to get what I wanted.  Between the two you can find most everything.

Does windlass make the 1850 foot officers sword.

about a year ago I got a really cheap repro off ebay, sword not good at all could bend it, good news was the leather was totally worth the purchase price so I am a happy camper.  Was able to get an authentic 1850 foot officers sword for less than the cost of some of the high quality repros..

Much lighter.  Leather on hilt was in good shape had to replace the wire, that was like $10 and an equal number of minutes.

According to thier website, WIndlass is not currently making the the 1850 foot officers sword.  They change their offerings on an annual basis though.

THe only difference between the S&F 1850 and the FO 1850 is the lack of the "US" cast into the guard on the FO.

Drydock - their Cutlass is awesome and I have had it for some time.

It is made well and with the frog attachment with scabbard - i can wear it at shoots with less trip hazards than many other swords.

Still have to be careful about trying to go fast.

But with my USRCS uniform, Cutlass on my hip, 51 navy conversions in naval frog holsters and my Martini single shot shotgun belching smoke, fire and brimstone - I get lots of smiles and style points!

I have been eyeing the one from Atlanta Cutlery, which is also part of Museum Replicas or vice versa. Most of Museum Replica's swords are touted as being fully useable and will return to true when bent. They are also made by Windlass.
One of these days, the 1850 will come home to me too.

I had one of the 80 dollar 1860s back when I was in high school. It went back to the company after 1 day of cutting sunflower heads off with my horse. It was cheap and useless, and bent very easily.
