45-60 Filler Materials

I have seen posted here some reloading data. I am going with 21.0 grns of 5744 to push a 400 grn gas checked RN. As posted by Silver Rings what is recomended for filler? Would a cardboard card be used over the powder and corn meal work to fill the space between the Bullet and card? Any helpful thoughts would be appreciated.

Howdy Chiefht,

I used polly, the kind used to stuff pillows.  I would not use a card wad over the powder with the polly.  I have talked with people who use a card wad over the powder when using grits or grain for filler.  I would reduce the loads I have listed with filler if you are going to use grits or grain for filler because it is different from using the polly.

I use a 1/2" x 1/2" x 1/2" cube of polly for filler and it has worked good for me.  I am working on loads that fill the case enough to give consistent velocity, with out filler, at a velocity that I want.
