Does anyone have any experience with the Uberti build it yourself 1858 New Army kit from Taylors?  Thinking of ordering one and building it rather than buying an assembled one.  If anyone has done this, how did it work out for you?

I built a colt navy from a kit.  I think mine was a Pietta kit from Navy Arms.  It was really rough when I got the kit, milling marks and all.  I did get it to a decent little plinker, but I do not think (this was 20 years ago) that Pietta was putting their best materials in kits.   I am right proud of that pistol though and someone would have to offer me serious bucks to part with it.   So if you enjoy hands on, I say it can be fun.

IMO the materials are the same as the finished product......they just get pulled from the assembly line in an unfinished state.
Ultimately the difference between a Kit and a Factory gun is your skill in finishing the kit.
