SASS membership

I have about a month wait before my rifle and SXS get here so I have time to make sure all my ducks are in a row before I get started in the cowboy shooting.One question, does one have to be a member of SASS before you can enjoy the sport?

Only if you want to compete in SASS State level and above matches. 
Most clubs don't requier it but some might for insurance reasons or they might requier NRA membership for the same reason.  Best to check with the places you want to shoot at.
SASS and NRA emberships are both a good idea though.  SASS helps to keep us up to date on industry news and helps shape the bulk of the sport.  NRA is our loudest voice to preserve our rights.  some don't agree with these roups tactics but they are the front runners of what they do and membership gives you a voice in that.

I am an NRA member but didn't know about the SASS. I don't plan on competeing on the state level,just not enough time with all the other responsibilities and hobbies I have.But I sure don't want to miss the coach to the cowboy action fun.

Thank you pards,I am looking forward to SASS. The rifle and shotgun that I have on order now will take about a month to arrive. I am sure the wait will be worth it.Meanwhile,I will prepare .

Go ahead and get to some local matches and start meeting people.  Don't be surprised if you end up shooting a match or two even before you get your guns.

I found that out already.The second time I showed up at an event,they all wondered why I didn't bring any guns.When they found out that I was enjoying what I was seeing,several cowboys insisted that I use their guns to try a couple scenarios.From then on,I was hooked.
I might add that I already built my cart befor I even have a rifle and coach gun to put in it. Humm," Cart before the horse" ring a bell?

When you join sass you can also register your name and no one else can use it.

I updated my profile a bit.I am located near Canfield,Ohio. So far,I know of the Brookfield Club,Salem,West Point and Greenville.I've only spectated at the Brookfield club and the Salem club.

Cowboys are a good bunch and most LOVE to let other people shoot their guns.

Well,I finally put the right foot into the stirrup by joining SASS and making "Takoda Ray" official.  Thank you pards for the hands up to get me seated. I got my phone calls and my rifle and shotgun are only about a week away from arriving ,so soon,I'll be after the steel bad guys.
