I think I saw 35 or so gr (VOL) of FFFg or such, but, how about a smokeless load using either uniuqe or TrailBoss?
(I am guessing a 1.9cc dipper full of TB would be enough for the 335gr soft lead bullets most folks are using)

[I have switched to TB for all my smokeless cowboy loads]

Comments? Suggestions? Recommendations?

With the Buffalo Arm .512/350 bullet, I use a LEE 2.5cc dipper of Hodgdon's Triple Seven, about 39-40 grains (volume).  Equals about 44-45 grains FFG Goex, or the original load.  About 1200-1250 from the carbine with the 350 bullet.  Excellent accuracy.  USe CCI Magnum Rifle primer.  No signs of excessive presssure. Very accurate.  Took a long range match with it.  Lots of smoke! <g>

I neck size cases after firing, rather than full length.  I usually leave about 1/2-5/8" gap between shell holder nand bottom of die.  Increases case capacity and case life.  Full length sizing, use a 2.2 LEE dipper for about 37.5-38 grains volume of triple 7.

I'd like to hear about some smokeless loads as well...

us cold-states shooters must shoot smokeless indoors during the winter months...

I got a nice load for 38-55 that works quite well. (10.2gr of TrailBoss and 250gr RNFP for 1200fps)

I figure, I can drop it down to 9gr and be safe...(9gr of Unque or TB is what I shoot in a 30-30 for smokeless cowboy loads)

There is some smokeless load data in the "feeling the itch" topic a few back, and a long time back under 56=5- smokeless load data needed (on page 3, I believe)

I see that there are 2 production and 2 "modified" bullet moulds for the Spencer.

The Lyman is a 3 grove 330gr bullet. (I might be able to pick this up more readily...)
The Rapine is also a 3grove and 350gr bullet. (not available locally)
The Lee moulds would need to be modified from 450gr and 500gr down to 335gr. (would the mould blocks need to be retapped/drilled to support the shorter height on the sprue cutter?)

If I had to choose a mould today, i am leaning towards the lyman, as it is 330gr and has 3 lube groves. (although, the front grove might actually be only for crimp)

Any thoughts on the Lyman mould?

FYI: I am waiting for the lyman dies and shell holder from a source...my Spencer is another 5 days away, from what I understand...

There is a third production mold for the Taylors.  Buffalo Arms .512350.  It cives more case capacity for BP.  It has one deep groove for lube and a crimp groove that makes it the perfect length.  Between the two Taylor's I have owned, I have fired several hundred rounds without a failure to feed, and exceptional acuracy with the BAC bullet.  The mold throws an even .512, so no sizing needed.
