Custom Holster?

So I saw this picture http://shop.ihlusa.com/images/DHRA.jpg and immediately wanted one similar for my Ruger ROA.

The issue was that neither the maker nor myself could say that it would fit my 5-1/2" ROA.

Also, while I really liked the overall design of the rig, I asked that the holster have a strap/loop across it. It just looks a bit too plain the way it was. So the maker declined.

Anyone have a suggestion on a custom maker that would make this design but for a 5-1/2" ROA and the modification I've got in mind?

Thanks

Cliff Fendley comes to mind and perhaps he will do what you want. http://www.fendleyknives.com/Modern.htm He made my Cheyenne rig for me perfectly. I'm sure there are others here too that would be willing to try.

Couple 'o' thoughts,

If you like that rig (and I certainly would myself), I would double check with your local club's ROs to see how acceptable a 'shoulder holster rig' actually is (In some clubs they outlaw shoulder holsters and double crossdraw rigs are banned).

It sounds like what you are asking for is a belt-and-suspenders 'hybrid rig', with the old time-iness of a Doc Holliday rig and the safty strap of a modern rig. If that is indedd what you want, I would approach someone whoo does a lot of Law Enforcement holsters ....

A ROA will fit in the same holster as a OMV! I've made several.

ROAnutz,

I also have a pir of 5 1/2" ROAs and find that they fit quite comfortably into any holster made for a Schofield ... in fact, my double crossdraw rig (banned by my club),
is now my holsters for doing 1880 reenactments ... below is a pic of the rig with the ROAs on board ....

Perhaps I misunderstood, from his wanting  a decorative strap/loop across it.  Sounded like he might want a hybrid Mexican Loop design???  A safety strap makes more sense but it would offer little for a decorative embellishment.   It is an attractive design and offers plenty of room for stamping, florals, inlays  or most other common holster decorations.

I would prefer the holster be a Mexican single loop holster with a safety strap. I'm less interested in decorative design but the holster in the picture doesn't look right to me. Maybe because I've always had loop holsters.

Is what I'm asking too much? The one at http://shop.ihlusa.com/images/DHRA.jpg is just awesome except for my holster preferences and fitting the ROA.

The holster shown in you picture looks like a shortened Slim Jim to me.

Anything can be built. I think that the function of the loop would be gone of course, and would just be extra leather to take up space and snag on things.
BUT...
I think a short abbreviated skirt or even a thin strap that is sewn or riveted on the back just to hook the skirt too, and also to take the loop bulk out of the equation, and then a separate loop would be possible. Might not even look that bad.

It would definately not be the norm.

I think there are several ideas and people here, that know what I want better than I do.

I'm sure it can be done but who's to do it? I'd obviously like some one within driving range from SW Ohio,  which makes this all the more difficult.

He may have declined because his design doesn't really call for needing the loop the way that rig is put together. I guess you could make the holster removable from the bandoleer to give the loop a purpose. Something on the order of the way I do my universal rigs. Myself and some others use these for deer hunting. I actually use one with a ROA during muzzleloading deer season.

Something like this but with more of a western look to it.

Cliff's idea of a convertible holster just makes sense. Great thinking Cliff. And nice design as well.

Cliff, I beg to differ pard.  This is a gorgeous rig and the beauty of the holster is in its western look, as I see it.  The gun may not be western but I like modern field guns in western styled holsters.  I am sure this concept could be applied to a spider style shoulder holster rig for an unusual but early looking cowboy style.

Cliff,

Would you welcome a visit to discuss this? And perhaps make it?

Thanks Bob, I didn't mean mine didn't have some western look to it but I don't think as much as he's wanting. I'm sure it could be applied to a spider style but I do believe you would need the lower loop to guide and keep the holster held at the angle you want.

Thanks Dalton, I originally came up with that bandoleer because I was wanting a way to remove my handgun and holster when hunting without taking my coat or orange hunting vest off. I have a holsters for various guns that I can use on the same bandoleer and I can also wear the holsters on my belt.
