Buffalo hair on ?

Watching The Searchers today i noticed the indian gal (Look) "Luke" had a blanket that was pretty thick.I was thinkin it had buff in it,i would like to make a mattress like that,maybe two pieces of buffalo 2-3 feet wide and six foot long glued together from the tanned side,is it possible to get buffalo in cuts like that?Then stuff it in a  indian blanket folded and sewn up for a comfy bed roll...

Hey GCR,
Make friends with a taxidermist.  they often trim this or that off after the tanning process.  Most people wanting a mount will err on the side of caution and provide plenty, if not the entire hide for even a shoulder mount.  I have family that are taxidermists and if they have it provided, they often tan as much of the hide that is in good shape so they can make repairs if necessary on the final piece.  This is how I have some wildebeast and hair on buffalo.   Often they will give you a good deal on the pieces.
