I always liked this holster so I made it from the picture in Packing Iron. I haven't decided whether to sell it or keep it. It's Walnut stain and the lighting makes it look lighter at the bottom but the color is like you see toward the top in the picture. Appears to be fairly close to the color of the original.

That's a beautiful holster, Cliff. You copied the original very well. The color is rich. That's a keeper.

Howdy Cliff,

Outstanding! This Holster sure looks like it belongs on the pages of "Packing Iron".

The color, the stitching, the carving and the stamping ... One and All .... First Rate.  I give you an A+ on this project.  :)

Thanks fellas,

Outrider it is all hand stitched, linen thread. I've been using the machine on more modern designs and some large items like scabbards or saddle bags when they don't care if it's authentic in every way. I've still hand stitched anything with a toe plug since I always use the same thread for the main seam and plug without any splice. I sew down the main seam and around the plug and finish up back at the bottom corner.

I love the machine for those knife sheaths with welts, retention straps and belt loops when I wind up with about five layers of 8-9 oz. Makes my life much easier on those. :D

Maybe one of these days I can get a needle and awl stitcher so I can stitch linen thread on a machine. Steve said no on this one.

How did you make the carving pattern? Did you freehand draw it? I have not gotten my copy of Packing Iron but when I do I am wanting to find a pattern to put on my personal holsters I am getting ready to make. The one I really would like to use is the one used on Tom Selleck's holster in Last Stand at Saber River. My match guns are Richard's Type IIs from Uberti. Last Stand has become my most favorite western movie.

Cliff thats a great job of a copy. Nice color. I can see where you would want to keep it for your self. Just plain NICE, KT
Cheer up things could be worse, sure enough I cheered up and they got worse.

Thanks again fellas

Pappy, I just looked at the picture and made the holster pattern to fit an 1851 and free hand drew the pattern.

I need to get my copy of Packing Iron and see what I can find to use on my holsters. I used to be a pretty good artist but have not done alot of drawing for quite some time. Hopefully it will come back to me.

Very nice Cliff!
I love that old Winchester and Main type carving. I wish we would see more of it.
