I have a chance to pick up a Pfaff 1245.  Is this worthwhile for holster making?

Thanks!

The Pfaff 1245 is a medium weight machine which would be good for things like chaps and lighter weight projects (upholstery, canvas, etc.)  The 1245 will only accomodate thread sizes up to 207 (depending upon what needle system it has...some have a 135 needle system and some are equipped with a 190 needle system).  The 1245 is a fantastic machine (I have one) but it is not designed to do heavy work such as holsters and saddles, which normally utilize heavier thread (207, 277, 348 and larger).

If you are going to do alot of holster work you should seriously look at an open arm heavy weight stitcher.  Ferdco, Adler, Artisan, Cobra, Cowboy, Juki.....all offer such machines at variuos levels of pricing....(most are copies or variants of the Juki 441).  I personally use a Ferdco Pro-2000...several other pardners on here use the Cobra Class 3 or Class 4, and some use Artisan 3000 or 4000 machines...I think there may be a few with the Cowboy machines as well.

Some of the pardners may chime in and give their impressions on the machines they use
Good Luck on your search
