IRON JACK

Just joined the forum, been reading for a while now and I got to say I love this site. What a great bunch of folks.

I started shooting old guns, beginning  with an 1873 springfield about 50 yrs ago with my dad and now with sons and grandsons.

About a month ago I stumbled across a uberti 1866 carbine 44-40 an brought it home. It says American Arms on the barrel and by the date code it was made in 1999. I don't think it had ever been shot. Hammer didn't have fireing pin strike mark.

I love to shoot it very much but if the light isn't just right with my 59 yr old eyes I have a hard time with the sights.

Would It be a terrible sin if I were to put a marble tang sight on a carbine?    :-\

Thanks

Jack

HELL NO! But I prefer the Lyman. I put one on my 38spl. Yellowboy carbine after I got it back in '68 and have no regrets. I have a Marbles on my '76, but it makes for an uncomfortable grip. The Lyman has a much better feel. The downside is there is no windage adjustment, so you have to play with the front sight.
The trick is to sight it (windage only) with the open rear sight, and then install the tang sight looking through it and lining up it so you're also looking through the open rear sight.

I have a Marbles tang sight on every rifle I own - that's 5 total.  I love them and won't use anything else.  They include Winchesters, Marlins, Henry's and Lightnings.

Thanks for the help. I'll look at both Marble and Lyman and dicide what to do.

I use tang sights on my buffalo rifles and see real well with them.
