I have been swewing with the Tandy imitation sinew and I really like it.

Who likes or dislikes it and why?

Probably no help but i use something like that for these.I run the end through each little triangle,i run the end through a spot of super glue for about two inches, makes it stiff like a needle and it doesn't frey when i work with it..There is good stuff and better stuff,i get the better stuff from Gary's lapidary supplys, cost about 1.00 more as i pay for convenience going to his place out in the country a bit.

Bunch a ole scudders!

Workin on this one right now.Notice the triangles are alot smaller here, maybe a little to small or tight as i had to use alot of the thread and may have to splice anothe foot to get the center circle a bit smaller.

I like it for a vriety of reasons:

It cinches down tight and doesn't 'move'...

It is very easy for these geriatric eyes to thread needles with ....

It really looks bitchin' against black leather ... I know it's silly but humor me ...

I used to use it for all my hand-stitching. I would take the 3-strand and unravel it.
But I found that the white waxed thread made for a more even, neater appearance, so I changed to that.

I will still use the artificial sinew if I want the rustic look.

I agree that it's nice to work with and will last a life-time.

The five holsters and knife sheath that I have made so far, are all sewed with Artificial.  The main reason is do to the fact I already have a large spool.  There is flat and there is round artificial.  The flat does tend to give a less than optimal look because is not always laying the same way.  The good side: it is almost impossible to break it.

I've used artificial sinew for years on all of my hand stitched leathergoods - hunting pouches, holsters, etc.  I think it is a matter of personal preference.  I like the results that I get and some of my hunting pouches have been used for over thirty years with no problems with the stitching.  And as pointed out . . . it's easy to thread the needle and my "old fart" hands enjoy it too . . . stitching pulls tight and stays there and I get a good beeswax treatment on the old fingers as well.   ;D :)

Whew!

I thought that this stuff was so nice to use that there had to be some kind of drawback. I bought a little bit to try out and have been useing totally ever since ... I was afraid that some one would say that it wasgreat but lasted only a short time ... I kept thinking of that Jimmy Stewart movie where he goes to a costume party and his clothes started falling off little by little ...

Skip:

I have used the artificial sinew off and on for years.  I used it for Pre 1850 projects or to make repairs.  It is good stuff.
