Here is a rifle that I put together from parts I had collected for a period of time. Cal. 45-70, set trigger, 32" barrel and the rest you can see.

Rustyrelx, amazing what you can do with those old trapdoors without investing a whole lot. You did one heckuva job on her and she definately will stand out in a crowd. I picked up one that had a repaired stock, halway thru the lockplate and forward was '73 trapdoor, back from there was pure Springfield musket. I'll tell ya' someone sure as heck knew how to piece the two halves together. Picked out a good old original stock and a few other small pieces from the guys at trapdoors.com and put her back into fighting trim. The bore is almost pristine, amazingly, and it shoots better than I do (for a trapdoor). In total got around $600 in her and wouldn't trade her for the world. I just wish the old girl could talk, I'd love to know the story behind that stock, which I've saved by the way.

That's one nice looking rifle. Is that a Treebone stock?

rustyrelx

Thanks, that is what we love about these old rifles, wish they could "talk" Some can if you study long enough and look close enough. Yes its a Treebone stock built in the fashion of a "Marksman Rifle"... Don

How much work was involved in fitting the metal to the stock? ie:how much of the inletting remains to be done?

rustyrelx

A friend and I did the inletting. I had about 3 hours and he had about 4 hours maybe less. Went together very easy.. Don
