Howdy!
I have searched the old posts for the answer to this question, and guess I will just ask. I am about to order some bullets from Slim, and have decided to try the 195gr schofield, the 210gr, and the 250 PRS. I'm going to shoot these with Holy Black out of 7.5 in pistols. I know these are fine for "CAS Targets", but was wondering what size groups these might be capable of producing at 25-35 yards. I know these weren't designed as target bullets, but was wondering if they would produce "minute-of-the-bottom-of-a-popcan" accuracy at 25 yds  :)
thanks,
Tom

Tom,
I have experience with the PRS 250 and, yes, it shoots very well with bottom of "pop can" accuracy at 25 yards. ;D
That big ole' meplat punches a big hole as well!  ;D

Thanks w44wcf !!
I'm hoping to adjust POI with the lighter Big Lubes, but still want the 250s for "HOLY CATS !!! Full Power" shooting out of my 7.5 inch USFA Custer model!!

I shoot the 250 grain big lubes exclusively in my .45s. They are very accurate for me. I only shoot full case loads.

I also shoot the 250 PRS Big Lubes in both Schofield and Colt cases.

P.S. Pleeeeeeez! It's just Black Powder. There is nothing Holy about it. ;)

I use both the 250 grain PRS and 210 DD/PUK/ROAII bullets and both are very accurate.  I also shoot the 210 grainers in my 45 ACP. I, also, shoot only full case loads of Holy Black - even in the 45 ACP.

Howdy

I shoot both the original PRS 250 grain and the J/P 45-200 with Black Powder. Generally speaking though, I put the 200 grainers in Schofield cases, not 45 Colt. One little known fact about the J/P 45-200 is that you can get more powder in the case with it than with the 250 grainer. That is because when fully seated, the J/P 45-200 does not extend as far into the case as the 250 grain bullet does. That was one of the things I had to do to get the weight down to 200 grains, cut back on the rear driving band. So if you are going to put them both into a 45 Colt case you will get a little bit more powder under the lighter bullet once you compress both powder charges the same amount.

Both bullets are very accurate, but I seldom shoot them out to 25 yards, so I can't give you any figures on that.

In my experience, the 250 grainer over a full charge of FFg in a 45 Colt case shoots the highest, followed by the 200 grainer in a 45 Colt case, followed by the 200 grainer in a Schofield case.

And yes, it's just Black Powder, there's nothing Holy about it. Let's stop trying to mystify Black Powder, it ain't rocket science.
That's bad business! How long do you think I'd stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he'd pay me that much to stop robbing him, I'd stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!

No DJ, but it's dang near religion.  The "Holy Black" name is just for grins amongst the sooty people that enjoy shooting it at SASS matches.  I don't find that moniker used any other place.  Don't know where it came from, but it's fun and not blasphemous to use it when it suits the mood.  No mystery here, just good "clean" fun.

The PRS bullets will serve very well in 45 (Long) Colt cartridges.  I'll be testing some of them from my 45-70 rifle today to see if they might make a passable Plainsman bullet.  When loading the shorter Cowboy 45 Special brass I do, just like you, prefer a lighter bullet and the J/P 45-200 really does nicely.  So does the even lighter EPP-UG bullet.  At 150 grains, the lil EPP-UG really hums along and is very accurate.  The EPP-UG does not load as well in the full size 45 Colt brass tho.  I've found that with a compressed charge of FFFg Schuetzen under it, the little round can easily exceed SASS maximum velocity.

So, good luck TDW.  You're in good company.
