I've never handled a replica winchester, i.e. uberti made, and am curious...do they come with the buttplate access for cleaning rods on the appropriate models that would originally had them?

thanks
With great moustache, comes great responsibility.

The Uberti Winchester copies with buttplate access for cleaning rods, that I know of, are the 1860 Henry, 1876 Winchester, and 1885 Highwall.  Seems like I might have seen this feature in a Chaparral 1873, not sure.

Grizzly Adams

I have seen only one Uberti 73 with a trap in the butt for cleaning rods.  It was a SRC, and I was told that it was a very early example.

Howdy

Neither my Uberti 1873, nor my Uberti Henry have a door on their butt plates.
That's bad business! How long do you think I'd stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he'd pay me that much to stop robbing him, I'd stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!

All the '73 that i know have no buttplate access.I know only a few '66 and Henrys that have a buttplate access.

My Henry has a buttplate access and a dovetail on the frame.

Smithcollector,

The only current Uberti rifles with a cleaning rod trap in the butt are the brass frame Henrys, the 1886 and the Highwall.  The '73s and '66s do not.  Years back (20+) there were some '73s and '66s made with the rod trap, but few and nothing current.

My Uberti steel frame Henry does not have a trap door but my brass frame military version does.
My Uberti Win 73 musket does not have a trap door, nor does my AS Win 92 rifle.
FWIW my Euroarms Win 73 carbine has one, however.

The Uberti '76 has one.  And Uberti doesn't make the '86, but Chiappa does.

I have the 1987 Dixie Gun Works Catalog--don't ask why I still have it, long story.  Anyway, the '73s they were offering at that time are described as having the trapdoor.

I kinda wouldn't think 1987 to be a catalogue of current production.  Would however, be lots of fun to thumb thru.  Expecially if it also reflects '87 prices :P

The only replica I've ever owned is a very early Allen Firearms Henry made by Uberti in the mid 1980's.  This gun does have the trap in the buttstock.  It was mentioned here that the 1885 Highwall replica has a trap in the butt.  If this is true, it is not correct.   The only original Winchester production guns that had traps in the butt were the models 1866, 1873, 1876 and the 1895 saddle rine carbines.   If you find a trap in the butt on any other Winchester lever action model, it was a special order extra.

My Chaparral '66 has the trap door on the end of the butt.

My Chappy '76 has a trap in the butt plate also.
