Can anyone identify this blacksmith chest? It's green in color and marked on the lid "US Blacksmith Chest Engineers". On the inside lid it list the tools that should be in the box, other tools are listed as "loose in wagon". Any help will be grateful.

That looks like a WW2 vintage box.Neet box.

St. George

WWII-Korean War issue - there should be a date at the bottom of the paper form.

It's a part of the bigger 'Pioneer Kit' that the Engineers have - a sort of rolling hardware store.

Thanks, that's all I needed to know.  I found it in an antique store. They want $95 for it, however I wanted to know something about it, and I thought it was older than that, so I'll take a pass on it.
You know this is one of the many things that I like about this site. You can ask questions and get answers for them. Isn't it just wonderful?

Besides looking for dates on the attached lists on boxes like this look at the hardware on the box.Look at older boxes and the type latches and other hardware used. It's a good way to ID boxes as to age by the hardware and construction methods.I always look at old boxes in pictures or on the auction sites.
