A buddy would like for me to build him a rig for his Colt .44-40, 4-5/8" barrel.
He's long distance, so I will not have his gun available.
I have a lot of Will Ghormley patterns, which one will most closely fit the .44? Is it close enough to the .45??

You all pointed me in the right direction the last time I made such a inquiry, I'm hoping you can do it again. ;D
(BTW...I have emailed Will with the question but no response yet)

All revolvers of the SAA variety are built on the same frame/cylinder/ barrel blanks wether .38 or .45.

What Ned said, a SAA is a SAA, just different barrel lengths, so use your SAA pattern and make it for a 4/58" barrel, for me I prefer making my holsters for the Civilian model SAA ( short barrel ) a longer Artillery model ( 5 1/2" barrel ) length, for me the longer holster looks better, and it doesn't pose any problems for the shorter barrel, and then if one would choose to use a Artillery model SAA, he would be good to go, one holster can serve both needs.
