Morning everybody. The stitching horse I'm making is coming along nicely, and the base is drying from the first coat of oil. I'm excited because I've seen that I can combine my love of woodworking with my new-found love of leather crafting (in my case I use that term loosely!) I've decided that I will make and install a lightly edge tooled leather seat pad for comfort. I'm thinking of using some of my wife's cotton quilt batting scraps for the stuffing. Any  suggestions? Would a neatsfoot oil finish leave oil stains on the jeans of the user after it soaks in? Or would I be better to use an acrylic sealer? I'd like to achieve a soft seat but don't know what furniture makers use on leather, and I don't want to look like I've wet my pants when I stand up. Thank you for your time. Don

Too little oil - cracked leather
Too much oil - wet pants
Just right oil - good to go.   ;D

Tallbald, I think you would be happier with some condensed foam rubber for a seat cushion, you can buy this stuff in different thicknesses to suit your needs, for leather, I would suggest 4/5 ounce leather ( VEG TAN ) if you plan on doing a little border work, it's thick enough to handle that without tearing through, you're a big pard like me, and you need a good cushion to sit on, or you won't find yourself using your bench very much, and like TwoWalks pointed out go easy on the oil, a light coat should be enough, and unless you're going to use natural dyes, I would stay away from the Spirit dyes or Oil dyes, you can get rub off from them, unlike these dyes, the natural dyes won't run off. this is just my opinion, others will probably chime in, we're a forum of ideas, :-\ ??? ::) :o 8) ;D
