People have never smiled when they were painted, either. It's not just that it would have been a pain in the neck (or elsewhere) to smile for that long. It was also a cultural thing.
Nowadays we tend to smile for the camera. For another generation, it would have seemed inane.

For those following the period catalog link provided in The Barracks forum, two very recent uploads are an 1879 and 1882 Toy Catalogs.

Amazing so many items are still produced today, or rather, were still in production when I was growing up in the 50's ::).

Thanks John, I've not had time to look them over yet.  Did find a couple I should send to you, a little later but pre-WWI, One is Case and I need to check at home, but the other was a simialar imploment dealer.  I sent them to my brother and he is now waiting for Fex Ex to deliver his steam tractor engine, he plays with tractor pulling and I think he ordered the 100 HP one, 20 HP will pull a 14 bottom plow in virgin prairie.

I wouldn't wonder it takes quite a lot of strength to pull that virgin across the prairie . . .

Sorry. Sometimes I can't help myself.
