I drop FF about 12 inches into the case and fill it to about 1/4 to an 1/8 in below the top of the case.  The place the 250gn bullet on top and compress.  I get around 900 fps from my RVs with lots of Smoke and Fire to entertain the on-lookers.  Not all that hard to hang onto and I shoot GF.  With the Big Lube bullets I spray the barrels with Moose Milk and run a patch through them after a 6 stage day and they come out nice and clean.  Been using that load for three or four years now.  Works in the Marlin just fine too.

Thanks everybody,

I've received a lot of good information from everyone and I really appreciate it.  I think I've got enough information now to get started with.  It's really nice to have access to a forum like this.  Really a great bunch of guys!!

For those who are more traditional, I also cast the Lyman 454190 bullets. I personally shoot them in my 45 acp 1911 when I shoot in Wild Bunch matches. I stick to the Big LUbes for my cas shooting.

EDITED: Guys I am very sorry. I just received this private message, {snip} "You post before you read a lot, and you do it on other forums and sites as well.  Go back and read where two days ago people already gave links to Mark Whyte's bullets and already said what you thought was brilliant info. "

Savvy Jack,
If I were you I would advise whatever rude @$$ that sent you that message to feel free to ignore my further posts, and would ignore any further correspondence from him/her.  There doesn't seem to be a rule in this forum against redundancy, nor is there a requirement to read the entire history of any given topic before offering you own 2 cents worth.

I'll put in a vote for Dash Caliber, Springfield Slim and Iron Pony for PRS bullet sources.  There are others, but these will get the job done and you won't have to wait a long time for your order.

FWIW, this is a very friendly wire.  It's hard to feel that sometimes when we differ but we're mostly on the same journey.  When you get a message such as mentioned above, best to try to find the cargo and forget the cart.  Sometimes things sound harsher than you expect.  Also, sometimes this damn winter wears on a pard and he just gets a mite testy.  Don't worry, he'll come around when the smoke starts to roll again.

I've read several good threads on 45 Colt loads and didn't really want to start a new thread, but, still have some questions.

Back in November I was looking for an 1866 (Uberti) in either 44-40 or 45 Colt.  One of the guys on our Indiana Gunowners forum had one for sale, and at a 'heck of' a deal.  In addition to the rifle (45 Colt, 20" barrel), he included:
> 250 rounds 45 Schofield
> 300 45 Colt brass (new)
> Lee dies for the 45 Schofield
> 1500 lead bullets (Meister's: 500, 200gr RNFP; 500 250gr RNFP; & 500, 178gr SWC)

I purchased the rifle for cowboy action shooting, and plan on shooting blackpowder, BUT:

(1) will these bullets carry enough lube in them to be effective in keepping the barrel half-way clean?
(2) if not, and I go to Big Lube (TM) bullets, can I use these in 45ACP loads (target/IDPA shooting)?
(3) for CAS, how much BP do I need to use in the 45 Colt? and in the 45 Schofield?

BTW, just need rifle loads; using 1860 Army C&B pistols.

Thanks, Greg

Howdy Grizhicks,

If you go to Big Lube®LLC bullets, consider the DD/PUK/ROA-II.  It'll feed in rifles, revolvers and 1911s.

P.S. This bullet is also great in C&B guns, for which it was originally designed. . .
