Checking Uberti chamber

I finally have a '76 on the way.  A uberti from Dixie Gunworks.  Is there a way to check the chamber dimensions without firing the gun?  I want a 45-75 WCF chamber, and want to be able to have the barrel changed or whatever, and that may be void if I fire it.  Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Hugh

Hugh,
You have a couple of options.  One is to get some cerrosafe and do a chamber casting of your rifle.  The second option is to get someone here with an early large chamber rifle to send you a fired shell casing to try in your gun.  If it fits then you have a large chamber gun if not then you probably have a .45-75 WCF.  I was lucky enough to be able to do the latter method.  I also called Cimarron before I ordered and found out that they were aware of the difference but made sure of it once it arrived with the large casing a friend had sent.  His rifle is now rebarreled and I don't think he saved any of the old brass.  Before I get bashed, some love the larger chamber and thats just fine.  It made a difference to me, and thats fine too.  You might ask Dixie what their policy is on retured guns, and if they are aware of the chamber differences.
HOLY BLACK?  YOU MUST BE TALKING ABOUT PENNSYLVANIA ANTHRACITE!

Congratulations on the new rifle, Hugh.  I have the same one from Taylor's, and can say with certainty you're going to love it.  My guess is that your rifle chamber will be to original specs, as it seems that Uberti cleared this issue up a over a year ago.  Just sent you a PM.

I agree with Cimarron.  I have an early rifle with the larger chamber and it suits me just fine as it give me more powder  capacity of about 5 or so grains.  I am not as much of a "Purist" as some but still really like my rifle the way it is. So do what you gotta do. ;)
