Hi Folks,

I've done a little experimenting with the modern roll crimp thingy.  I bought a Harbor Frieght table top drill press and made a few shells with less than spectacular results.  I tried pre heating the crimper with a torch and it helped a little.  The main problem I have is I'm not able to run the drill press in reverse as the crimper thingy was designed to run.   Has anyone figured out how to reverse a non reversable drill press?  Or, are you just using the crimper in the forward (clockwise) running mode?

Thanks, Y-D

Brimestone Pistoleros run a 3 or 4 part article on roll crimping, still in the archives.  I am curious if the iron is really "needed" and are they still available?

I was going to look in my junk pile today to see if I had a piece of pvc to make a jig to trim hulls to lenght

I've always used my in forward, didn't know it was supossed to be run in counter clock wise rotation.  If you want to you can just get a longer V-belt and cross the pulllies on your drill press to reverse it.

Mornin Gents,

Thanks for the link Rooster, that was an interesting read.  I am thinking a pipe or tube heated with a heat gun might work as well.

Hey Will,  The instructions say counter clockwise but the video shows the tool moving in "forward".  I just received the tool from BPI but have not had a chance to look at the instructions.  Also I saw it call for clockwise rotation on I believe Midway USA's site.

Just looking at how the pins are laid in the cup it looks like it was made to run clockwise, but I'll have to try in counter clock wise and see what happens.

As Air America Radio pointed out "It is an ironic juxtaposition of events - one involves a meaningless ritual in which we look to a creature of  little intelligence for prognostication, while the other involves a groundhog."

Keep loadin'.  Spring's coming.
