buckskin billy

i started this way back in the beginning of summer. i'd work on it for awhile get aggrevated at it and throw to the side and start another project.
well finally got around to getting it finished. it fits a 1911. wal nut hull dyed, then coated with evoo and bear grease. the liner is about 3 ounce leather that came dyed that dark brown. i think its makes a nice contrast, and its new owner was tickled.

i have since gone to using a heavier mallet to do my stamp work, as the little wooden mallet i was using  barely leaves a impression in the leather

if it walks, crawls, slithers or leaves a track i can tan it

Good looking holster Billy, not having a heavy mallet allows the stamp to not imprint as deep, but there is an advantage to that if you're looking to make the leather look older and aged, the look it has now is of a holster that has been well cared for but has been used a lot, over time some of the detail of stamping is lost, it's a look you can only get through use and time, I like the look, you did a nice job here. I'm also a big fan of natural dyes too, and prefer using them.

Billy nice looking piece of work. Good color and I really like the aged look. KT

Billy, I remember you talking about making a 1911 holster, and you've done a fine job

When I was at WC's in Califorina last summer I got to try out a Barry King Polly mallet with an angled head, and I really like liked It.

Billy, TW is right, that has a wonderful time-worn look. Nice work. The color is really suitable for it, too. Thumbs-up.

Nice job Billy, I just finished watching the Wild Bunch movie again and that holster would have fit right in.
