I have been reading up on NCOWS.  As a former, research-based Southron Living Historian and competitive shooter (AC3A & IDPA), I was thrilled to see folks taking a more history focused approach than what I had been exposed to w/ "Cowboy Shooters" setting up after our monthly AC3A shoot.

I would like to come watch one of your events to see the level of impression and historical representation.

Do you have a schedule and location or did I miss that somewhere ?

CJ
over the years there have been maybe 10-12 loose associated NCOWS members scattered through out Florida, never forming a Posse' though
98 % shot SASS or W3G or both as this was to only regiment in State. Most have either drifted away or hung it up.

A handful... Cherokee Bodie, MT Chambers ,Blair, Cutter Carl, Kissimmee Sutler, Dakotaike & myself..
constitute the current Cracker Cow Cavalry
We have petitioned NCOWS to be listed as a Posse, will formally be listed when we reach at least 10 NCOWS members.
We stand at 8 presently, and at present we shoot with SASS, simply because we don't have the numbers as yet.

We 8 however stand ready and determined to host an NCOWS Style shoot, several of us shot today at the
Toys for Tots SASS shoot..... Interest was a shown, in the NCOWS concept ( and I can say I saw Several Shooters with historic frame of mind in dress & equipment )

I would welcome you to join us and help us get to that magic number...  ;)

My apologies to Louis Elliot over Sarasota way he is infact # 8

Something i have been mulling over.  I rekon we would be doing this at Hernando Sportsman and Wyoming Antelope Club as our cowboy shooting opptys in West Central Florida. I have friends in the mounted shooting hobby and we have done that a few times. I have a super squared away 12 year old and disciplined shooter and horseman in his own rights  in tow with me as well.   We are well acclimated to the campaign and life of the saddle approach.

We have a full wardrobe of very authentic, researched based civilian kit, tack,  garments, hats, etc. and i also have a Colt SSA in .45LC. Howevre, I am inclined towards acquiring a USFA Frontier Six Shooter Clone and its requiste 73 Winchester Clone getup as arms. Which means I am going to have to learn and equip myself to reload .44-40 (and .45LC should I choose to shoot my older Colt).

If y'all are talkin about the oppty to ride and/or bivy AND combine SASS/CAS/NCOWS shooting scenarios I sure would be intrested and coulld perhaps draw other cavarly pards with me

I'll be there too.

Hey Carl

Sorry we missed you at the shoot Sunday. We ( myself, the Major and Dennis were on Posse #1 ) and I didn't know you were there until I checked the score sheet and saw your name there on Posse #2 which I didn't do until Sunday night. Congrats on your score, Looked real good.
I suggested another lunch meeting to discuss our nx step in the forming our group. I myself have taken the step of taking with Turkey Creek Red, Territorial Govenor SASS to be instructed and certified as RO I.
I am open to suggustions as to anything else I can do to help set up and orginize this.
There are a lot of questions that I have about all the requirements of a NCOWS Posse......... (Any misspelled words are not my fault because spellchecker will not come up for Email and my wife is working now and thats my other spelling reference)

See ya when the smoke clears

 for Both Bill's and CJ,

OCB, I can't think of anything that would be better than to have you visit!

CB Bill,  Turkey Creek Red, (Mike Collins) Territorial Governor of SASS to be instructed and certified as RO I, is actually authorized to teach/train OR II, and is a former member of NCOWS. I am sure he would love to help in any capacity.
I am a SASS OR I, but would need a brushing up of all the newer rules an Regs that have come up within the past 6 years for SASS officiated clubs.
My offer to assist in this is still there. I don't, however, play the game any longer! I love the shooting, but do not compete.

CJ, The mounted CAS is, in my opinion, one of the most exciting parts to this game. However, one of the biggest issues within this discipline of the sport is... few ranges within the State of FL., at least that I am aware of, have allowances (room) for large animals. Foremost is the space required on normal shooting ranges for this discipline, secondary is the additional insurance that could/would be required for this activity.

Cheerokee Bodie,

Sorry I missed you guys.  It was a fun shoot.

Turkey Creek Red is a hoot to shoot with, so is his bride.  I travel over to Palm Bay when ever I'm off on the 4th Saturday to shoot with the Indian River Regulators their home club.  I was possed with them yesterday.

I am also a SASS RO II.

CJ,

Ther are a couple mounted clubs now.  There is one just down the road from me and the Hillsbourgh County Fairgrounds in Dover.  I think they are called the Bay Area Bandits.  If I heard correctly Turkey Creek Red is going to Newberry next week to teach the Mounted RO courses next Saturday.

As for promoting NCOWS in Florida.  I will be building a new cart this winter and plan on decorating with both SASS and NCOWS stickers.  I wear the lapel pin and have been asked about NCOWS a few times from that.  I always try to answer that NCOWS is not about competing againist SASS but more about the historical deal.

Hopefully I will be able to attend the next time everyone gets together.

Major 2:

Just wondering how close we are to a NCOWS posse shoot.  Looking forward to it.

Major 2

we are close....still 3 NCOWS members shy of the number we need to be approved by National.
That will gainer our Ins. underwrite.
Cherokee Bodie is taking the RO course today at the CFR. I will take it next month.

these ducks are lining up so we may get a CFR approval on date.
Currently the 3rd Sunday of each month is open at the CAS range.
We need the 10 members to run a shoot anyway ( when you figure shooter, timer, 3 spotters,
loading table & unload table, someone logging scores that 8..add in target reset 1 or 2 persons that 10.
It gets mighty busy.

We shot last Nov. with SASS boys and were well received..course Cherokee & Cutter Carl
are regulars and I'm old fish to many of them.
This weekend is their Last Stand (SASS) Florida Champianships.,upwards to 350 shooters  :o
