I ordered the catalog: I also sent an email and used your Buck .... I am not usually a name dropper, but I thought it might get it to the right person quicker .... I think the Cheyenne could be dropped an inch and a half or two inches and not look out of place ....and since the Schofields didn't really get to the west until the mid 1880s, the Cheyenne would be right on the money as far as design ... the dropped holsters would be pure fiction, but I think it might not look too out of place ...

.......... But because SASS does not allow 'double butt forward/double crossdraw holsters, the are rigged double strongside with 20 degreee forward cant ... acually not so bad if I was six-foot-four or so ........

I'm only 6 foot 2 1/2 inches tall, so It's a struggle for me, too  :D

I have been carying double-butt-forward configuration for a number of years BEFORE SASS added that to their rules, so apparently I'm grandfathered...or at least humored by everyone I've shot with for the past few years.....I only thought the restriction applied to "gunfighter"..but I'm admittedly not a SASS "rules" expert.....they tend to change every few years...folks around here tend to use common sense instead...& I don't shoot any SASS matches above the monthly club-level....besides, I offer free demonstrations to doubters...and..I can easily slide my belt around if that don't work. ;D

SASS does NOT have a rule against it, except in Gunfighter class. Local clubs may disallow it.

Unfortunatelly I was so new I squeeked ... when I brought those double-crossdraw holsters in (and probably drew them accross a RO or two), hey said No, No, NO, NO!

But since the holsters fit my Ruger old Army's better than the Schofields, The holsters may be relegated to Cap n Ball (and reenactments) as a double crossdraw rig ... time will tell.

Dalton,  I reread the rules and agree with you ... but the ROs insist that there be not 'double butt forward rigs' and I cower to there needs in the namd of being PC.

Besides, I really do like to shoot gunfighter, and have gotten used to the 'double strong side' holster rig ...it is just that I am the slowest person in my club doing it ...

But I am having a helluva lot of fun (and that is what really counts) ... the fella that reloads for me uses (I believe ) Goex FFFG in .45 Schofield with 180 bullets .... and I got a Model '73 that shoots the same Schofield ammo now, so I only have to carry one type of ammo (before I shot Schofield in my Schofields and .45 LC in my old post '64 Model '94)

And now that I have gone to AA Featherwieghts, my model '87 actually ejects the ammo, and I now have a Stoeger SXS for those pop-ups ...

So, as the Cajuns say, let the Bon Temps Roulet! And thanks for the friendship and suggestions ... all of them sage and fun  ....

The simple truth is that any canted holster must be faced downrange within the 170 rule for any type of draw.

Generally SASS assumes that any holster with the butt facing forward is a cross-draw rig.....but in reality, it isn't unless the shooter performs a cross-draw manuever.

I should emphasize that if my double butt-forward rig was anything other than straight-hang holsters (which it is)...it would not be allowable for me to do my twist-draw.

I FOUND A PIC!!!!

There is a guy selling a rig for a 4 1/2" Colt that is very near what I am looking for ...

Just imagine that the holster is a Cheyenne Rig with a dropped loop holster and 'Bob's your Uncle!'

Here's the COWS holster for my Schofield:
"I have, in my day, thieved cattle, your lordship. But none that were under my watch" ("Is that what passes for honor with a MacGregor", Earl of Montrose), "What passes for honor with me, is likely not the same as with your Lordship, when my word is given, it is good"

When I want to Texas, I shot Senior Duelist instead of Senior Gunfighter ... and since no rulles are against double cross draw in Gunfighter, I wore then that way (i.e. double crossdraw), and used a calvary draw, pulling the left one out with the left hand and the right one with the right hand.

Having only on pistol out did not seem to slow me (in fact, it was the first time I was not last !)

So it is probably how I will wear them from now on until the new holstes are done ...

At present, I am 'kinda' making a pair of holsters and rig from the Will Ghormley 'Jonny Ringo Pattern'

Except:

1.) I am using will Ghormleys Clipped corner Wheat Buckle.

2.) It is going to be a double strong side rig

3.). I am really modifying the holster ... I added six inches to the loop so that I will have a 'lowered'loop' holster ... my apologies to St George ... but since the president of my club uses a set of dropped loop holsters, I am following his lead.
I also raised the front/outside of the holster so that the hammer area of the gun is protected ... and since the top of the holster is about 3/4" taller, I raised the conch by about 1/4"

My intent is to have a set of holsters where the top(i.e back corner) of the grip is going to sit right at the top of the belt ... and the higher holster should give it a more 'old time' look ...

I have just put most of the belt together, and still have to add the bullet loops and finish the holsters ... and Dave Cole made a small drop point 'Getleman's Knife to go with the holster ... and made the sheath to mimic the holsters ...

I will put pics up of the holsteras Will patterned it and how it looks/what I have done today ... strike that ... I photobucketed my holster pic to give y'all more detail

I have published this elsewhere on the forum, but her is how the holsters ended up .... except for the very bad stitching on the holsters, I am very pleased twith the results ... so pleased in fact, I am now working on a matching shotgun loop belt to match the holsters ....
