New lube range report...44-40 Henry

50 rds of .429 Meister hard cast with my own lube recipe and 777 FFFg.
50 rds of .429 Meister SPG cast bullets with 1/2 of that 777 FFFg and the other 1/2 GOEX FFFg.
25 rds of .429 Meister hard cast with "factory" lube and Trailboss

My lube was a stick of crisco, 1/2 bar of canning parafin, 4 table spoons Murphy's oil soap, one wax toilet ring seal (new).

The 777 with the lube worked VERY well. Accuracy was fine, but, I need to adjust my sights BIG TIME!!!
(it was shooting 5 inches low and 3 inches left at 25 yards...at 50 yards, it was on the edge of the paper!!!)

3 inch groups, or there abouts, at 25 yards.
5-6 inch groups (or as best I could tell) at 50 yards.

Again, I was so far off the paper with those sights, I was not able to keep a consistent grouping.
(the rifle is capable of much better...user error)

Cleanup was VERY easy. Ran a patch once or twice down and back in the barrel and it was clean as a whistle!!!
(but the, 777 is pretty easy to clean)

The GOEX FFFg rounds, they cleand up just as well...

IMHO, I like the feel of GOEX a bit better than 777, softer I suppose. 30gr Vol of 777 has more kick, though.

I plan to stick with 777, but, use FFg instead. (IMHO, it feels a bit softer like GOEX FFFg)

Now for the updated post...cleanup!!!

Cleaning up afterwards was a snap. I ran a folded patch down into the bottom of the barrel, dumped in some black powder cleaning solution (Cabelas), ran a KleenBore spiral brush down the barrel a few times, then ran some patches with Kroil down.

CLEAN AS A WHISTLE!!!

I fixed my front sight on it as well. I had to reset the sight as it was twisting with the loading gate. I put a dab of blue loctite and all is good.

Ready fo another round of action...the bullet lube appears to hold up just fine.

I am thinking of switching to Pyrodex "Select" as it can be put under compression with 35gr in there. Also, more smoke.

And when you think of why we are all here...isn't it because we like to smoke'em since we got'em?
