I was going to try Pyrodex for blackpowder cartridge but the dealer sold out.  The store had some 777 that I could get a good price on, I bought some of it.  I found some good loads for rifle and shotgun, very satisfied.  The pistol loads I tried were not very good, lots of recoil, poor accuracy (couldn't hit falling plate rack worth a darn) and the guns seemed to be badly fouled.  The load I tried was about 19 grains of 777 2F in a 45 Scofield case with a hard cast 200 RNFP.  I have shot a smokeless version of this load with good success.
Is there some sort of filler I can use with 777??  How about a heavier bullet in the Schofield case to reduce the powder volume?

Ii did choronograph the the rifle load out of a 4 3/4" pistol, 24 grains 777 and a 250 RNFP, quite a handfull, 840 fps.

Now I can't wait to play again.  With rifle loads (10 in a row) I had em choke'n and lookin' for fresh air!

Thanks in advance everyone!

Well, you ain't supposed to use filler with subs, so I've never tried it, being one of those read and follow label directions types  ;D
777 gives more punch for the volume than APP -- APP (American Pioneer Powder)is about the same as 2F BP.   I'm guessing that real BP is hard to come by where you live, so APP would be the next option.  If you can score some real BP, that can have some grits filler to take the load down some/adjust it so the gun shoots POA, etc.  Bad part of that is, you'll need BP boolits with lots of lube to go with it.  See if you can find some APP and try that first.

Thanks for the reply Lou.

I can get blackpowder from a local dealer, but it is $16 to $17 per pound.

To get a decent price on BP I can go to Waldron and get it for about $9 a pound, but I have to buy 25 pounds.  I got a reduced price on the 777 and I can use up the hard cast bullets I have.  It also is not as corrosive as BP.  The 777 was a way to get my feet wet and see if I like it.

Got a pard with a power case trimmer?  If not, email me direct and mebbe I can help ya with that part.

Then ya can cut back some .45 colt brass to acp length and shoot 18 to 18.5 grains volume or so and a 230 or 250 and yer gonna have some compression and load em with acp dies and yer colt shell plate and yer in like flynn.

I shoot em in my rugers, get around 700 to 730 fps depends on bullet weight and seat depth (been experimenting) or a hair above and they group pretty nice.
