Killed a whitetail with my 1860 Henry in .44-40 tonight!  This was the first I have taken with this gun.  It was a good sized spike, which I generally don't shoot, but I couldn't pass it up on the old girls first outing. I was using Black Hills Cowboy ammo (All I had on hand) and shot it at about 65 to 70 yards.  The bullet did not completely pass through, but it went through one lung, through the heart, and into the other lung, lodging in the far shoulder.  Not bad for a cowboy load, but next time I will definitely use the x4440 Winchester ammo, as I would like to see complete pass through at that type of distance if possible (Although I am not sure it would have made much difference tonight because it was stopped in the offside shoulder).  The deer only ran about 15 yards and went down for the count proving once again that shot placement is what its all about.  It was exciting to bring one down with a real classic.  For all you guys contemplating hunting with your Henry, she will knock 'em down just like she did 150 years ago.  Unfortunately I don't have pics as I didn't get back to the house until after dark.

Thanks Billy. I probably haven't been as excited about a whitetail kill since I first killed one with a bow.

I was just using the standard sight from Uberti.  Mine is pretty good.  The sight picture is a little poor at dusk, but otherwise, I find it decent.
