Wow, this is an old thread, I wonder who started it? Well, never mind. Regarding the angle question, I don't see anything in the rules that would preclude the type of angle you're talking about ogreshooter.

KT that's a good looking belt. I like the way you've closed that bottom up without a strip on the bottom.

JD, heres a few pics of what I was talking about. This is the basic idea from the pattern pack, but then changed to fit 2.
The bottom one is the first one I did, but after using it for a year or so, I need to change the straps to a slightly different setup.

What measure is it on the loops Dalton??

Here is a legal slide. I took the picture with my phone.

This slide was part of my RO II class, taught by Pale Wolf Brunelle, who writes a monthly column in the Chronicle on what is and isn't legal in SASS.

It snaps on a belt, and holds four shells at an angle. It was a part of his demonstration of what was legal and what wasn't, and this is.

I don't know who made it, but if anyone is interested I have more views of it, taken by a phone camera.

JD, since you took the class I think you should be able to correct me if I am wrong?  Studying your picture it appears that the attacment is designed to allow one to mount their shells leaning in one direction, whether right or left, but now outward from the body.  I think that with some of the newer rulings SASS has somewhat let the cat out of the bag on bending the rules to accomplish tilting the shells away from the body legally.  No real opinions here, just observations, as I have no dogs in this fight.  One thought, when SASS gives up an inch, the commercial leather worker will get new orders from shooters wanting to get that new inch!!!!

So I can have a shell carrier that holds 4 shells???
Does SASS not update their rule book frequently? I just read that you can not have a shell carrier hold more than 2 shells per loop. I am not a total goober, and I can read some, so now I am lost. Is there a new iteration of the rules somewhere that I can read???

Thanks JD, sorry if I seem lost. It only appears that way because I am...

Sorry for the confusion guys; I shouldn't have posted anything until I had time to upload two more pictures that will hopefully explain things.

orgeshooter, you are correct, no more than two shells per pouch. What this guy did, and some others have done as well is cover the double pouch with a single strip, either for decoration, or in this case I think it was to hide the  material the pouch was made out of, which was some sort of plastic.
I don't know that this unit is all that practical, but it does place 4 shells at an angle. I remember taking the pictures, but I don't remember a lot about it, as we were looking at it in the middle of a test. I hope this helps

OK, again more confusion from the FNG...

SASS says no metal or plastic liners, although the entire loop may be made out of metal.

Not that it really matters, I am going to use strictly leather on mine. Just curious how it is legal if it has a plastic liner.

To be honest, I'm guessing here, but I believe the key here may be cartridge versus shotgun loops. The following is from page 11 of the Shooter's Handbook, and seems to make a difference between a cartridge loop and a shotgun loop.

Leather belt slide ammo loops are acceptable; however, shotgunshell slides may not be worn over shotgun belts. Shotgun loops must be in a single row. Cartridge loops must not have a metal or plastic liner. However, the entire loop may be made of metal.Shotgun ammo loops may not accommodate more than two rounds per loop, and rifle/revolver ammo loops shall accommodate only one round per loop.

I can't think of any other answer.
