How many here have visited the Pietta website? They have some C and B Armies and Navies with Lightning birds head grips in several configurations. They may not be period correct, but they are beautiful and just beg to be conversions. The only North American importers I have been able to find for them is Marstar.

Traditions has just added a Birdhead Grip 1861 Navy to their line.  It is Pietta.  Traditions catalog lists the Birdhead Grip as an 1860 Army but in reality it is a .36cal 1861 Navy.  The price is over the $500 mark.  It is a Sheriff's Model with a special finish.

Yep, just checked it out. They're calling it the 'Gold Rush' and it's on sale now for 369.00. Got checkered grips also.

What make you think that this modification would not be "period correct"?

I don't mind Pietta taking some liberties with their guns but my two biggest gripes would be their dimensions.

By that I mean the brass.

First- I don't like the brass triggerguard on the 58' Remmy. It's just too rectangular and it makes the whole thing look terrible.

Second- The brass backstrap/triggerguard on the Navy Colts could use some revision.

While it's on my mind, they should make their own Whitney Navy steel frame revolver. They've got the Spiller & Burr why not go for it? I'd buy a pair from them any day.
