I will be conducting an inspection of the Western Caribbean for a week commencing tomorrow, 7 January.  I will be out of telegraph contact during that time.

During my absence, Col Pitspitr, Commander of the Department of the Missouri, will be in temporary command of the GAF.

If he is unable to perform these duties, Col Bull Schmidt, will assume temporary command.  Col Schmidt is already heavily occupied with Recruiting Officer duties so I would prefer he be relieved of any additional duties when possible.

:) Have fun!

That is the plan!  We're doing a combined retirement celebration (mine), promotion celebration (wife's), and birthday celebration (both of ours) cruise.   I plan to catch up on my reading, do a little sightseeing, and check out the senior officer's likker cabinet now that Lt Col Drydock has seen fit to return the keys.

I will return to station on or about January 15th assuming I do not come into contact with any hostiles.

Col Pitspitr,

I have returned and you are hereby relieved of your temporary duties acting commander.  Thank you for a job well done.

For anyone interested, I enjoyed my celebratory cruise.  My only complaint was that it was too short! I was presented with a combination birthday/retirement celebration cake.  One of my table mates was a Canadian with a passion for history and we spent time discussing the American Revolution, War of 1812, and WWI, much to our wives' distress.  We hit rough seas for a couple of days.  Apparently, there were quite a few who suffered mal de mer, though for those of you when spent any time at sea courtesy of the Navy or Marines you'd probably have just considered it a normal sailing day.

You know General, Friday morning I was wondering if you had made it back yet. Just a few minutes later I got the notification on my fruit flavored portable telegraphic device of your update to this thread.

Glad you're home safe!

I should have reported back for duty earlier but I was enjoying the time off and you were doing such a great job that I extended my leave another couple of days.  (Actually, it took me several days to work through my e-mail, regular mail, class homework, and the usual things that pile up when you're gone a few days.

Now I'm looking at attending the NCOWS Convention in March.  I like being retired!

Well either way we can make cobbler.

One of the Canadians on the Lab forum posted that video a while back.
