Howdy boys.

Bought a Pietta '58 not long ago. One more shoot 'n it's comin' apart for a little whittlin'. Plannin' on takin' a little off the main spring and probably hit the strain screw up against the grinder a bit.

'Fore I do all that, I'd like ta have replacement parts on hand in case I foul it up. Where ya'll gettin' parts such as them?

Any info appreciated.

For what its worth--Don't take much off the main spring.  They are stout for reasons.  Weak-  won't set the cap off-- lets blow-back thru the nipp which causes the cap to come off & get into the works-   There is a fine line where too weak & still makes it go boom.    There are other things that can be done to make it funtion every time.  Ask the forum what can be done or email me & I can help.

Hearin' good things about VTI.  Thinkin' I'll go in that direction.

Went a l'il overboard on a '51 Navy awhile back.  Be real careful on this thing.

You could also get a Wolff mainspring (pt #32280) that works well in a Pietta '58. I had them in all of mine and they worked very well, as is! Didn't have to do any fitting at all. Never had a misfire until the all knowing one's outlawed setting cap's with the hammer.

First '58 I handled was way back when I was first gettin' inta this silly game.  I decided not ta buy it, but that ain't the story.

The fella that showed me how to load 'n cap it, a retired carrier jet jockey, used the hammer to seat the caps.  Kindah took me back a bit.  Got ta thinkin' the thing wasn't pointed at anything anyway, why not?  Used that method the summer I used the Navy as a main stage pistol, never a problem.

I reckon with sixty some odd thousand folks holdin' badges, 'n a lot of them novices when ya get down to it, lawyers get inta it 'n spoils it for the few.............

There's a set of the Wolff springs for sale over on the SASS Wire Classified's. Decent price.
