Help Identifying gun from serial #

Hello,

I have just bought a Cabela's/Pedersoli cap and ball musket (.50 Caliber) ...

Because the gun was immaculate and came with all the hardware for a great price, I bought it pretty much like a pig in a barrel.

Besides, I would be using it for reenactment, and would probably never put a ball down the barrel.

The interesting thing is that it is fairly short as black powder weapons go ... perhaps only comes up to my armpit (I am six feet, so perhaps around 44-46" overall?)

The only weapon I see presently on the Pedersoli sight of that length is called a 'Scout' ... so that is what I might own  ...

The serial # for this weapon is 5669X.

I called Cabelas, and there best answer was to talk to Pedersoli ....

Does anyone have any thoughts?

One would definitely require more data. What style or model of musket? could it be the U.S. Model 1816 Percussion Conversion Musket; or the Enfield Musketoon; or an 1855 Rfile Musket; or an 1842 Sprinfiled Msket; or  ....

Perhaps 'just bought' was kind of a euphanism of sorts ... just put a down payment on  it would probably be more accurate ... *S*

As a 'lay-away' situation, the gun shop, much to their credit, has posession of the gun ... hence no pics.

When I go in in two weeks to make the next payment, you can bet your sweet bippy I will have a camera with me.

But as I said, the only things that set it apart was it's carbine like length, the double triggers, and the ramped 'buffalo horn' rear sight.
Oh yes, and there was this unusual piece of brass or copper that wrapped around the base of the nipple and dished up on all sides ... some kind of flash protector?

Hence my 'guesstimate' of it being a Pedersoli Scout ... but since it also has a Cabelas stamp on the barrel, I am wondering if the Scout was ever sold by Cabelas?

I can't speak for rifles but on Cap n Ball revolvers serial numbers on the Italian made guns are worthless and can tell you nothing.  I have actually seen two Uberti's, same model come with the same serial number.  They have no records (at least that they will share) so there is no way to know.  Some manufacturers would give each of their distributors a separate serial # block.  They usually did not start with "0" because they wanted to hide the true quantity that a particular distributor sold.  On exception to this is Pietta.  They have particular blocks of numbers that they have for most of their models starting with "0".

Another interesting tid bit is the Signature Series Colt percussion revolvers.  Ever see one without a serial #?  They are out there.

The email that I got from the Davde Pedersoli Co said that all the serial number would confirm that the rifle was sent to Cabelas in 1991 ...

I am guessing that from the LOA and barrel length that I have a Scout model ....

And I will get pics tomorrow when I make my monthly payment ....
