Got a Pietta 1851 I'm thinking about selling. If I sell it on internet what do I have to do to ship it legally? It's not cartridge, its .36 cap n ball

California, New Jersey, New York and perhaps ILL. may have some hoops to jump..
but all other States allow you to ship them.... Be sure it's UN-LOADED

If you send UPS don't mention what it is in the contents declaration ( use machined parts )   
Though it's legal , UPS employees get all paranoid about anything gun...

Shipping direct to someone in Ca. is Ok.  Pack it GOOD.  When insuring . . . . asked "what is it" . . machined parts is a good answer that I've used.

What everybody said here. I send 'em in the mail in the priority mail boxes they provide. Disassembled! Put it in your own box that will fit in theirs. Insure it for the value only and if they ask, machine parts. In two days your customer has it. No fuss, no muss.

Don't let anyone see what you are sending. The ignorant masses get excited.....

I would also suggest that you require a signature upon delivery & not allow UPS to just leave them at your door.

I purchased two Uberti C&B pistols from Texas Jacks a couple of years ago and was surprised to see them sitting at my front door when I cam home from a long day at the office.

Ya, UPS will do that to you. Theres videos of delivery drivers throwing packages onto(or near) somebodies front porch. Kinda like a newspaper boy. Scary stuff.

Ship USPS.  It is perfectly to ship C&B revolvers (see Publication 52).  Since it is an OT design, break down and ship in the smallest Flat Rate box that will allow plenty of padding and insure.  If they ask, tell them the truth.  It is a big No-No to lie about what you are putting in the mail, even if legal, and that threatens any insurance claim you might have.  I do this all the time with "0" problems.

The Post Office doesn't ask what's in there, just "is it liquid, fragile, flammable or potentially hazardous". If it is legal, and it is, they don't need to know what is in there, especially if they are like the PO's around here, and just give you grief due to unbelievable ignorance. Pack it really well, put it in a Priority box and ship it. Done.

I use USPS and have shipped a few of um... only was aked once what it was and I said an Antique ... that was it, jus' don't offer any info let them ask their standard questions.
And you can ship to or buy over the counter any Cap and Ball Gun made here in OL' CA.
