Just wondering if anyone notice the rifle Jethro's dad had holding up the woman that was after him? Looked like a model 76 to me. 8)

I think it was a 73. Either way it was cool to see it in a modern setting. Too bad he didn't get the job done with it. Every thing worked out in the end though. ;) ;D     Jed

Yup!  I saw it.  '73 or '76, I wasn't sure.

Shotgun Franklin

They used a '73 in an episode a while back, might be the same gun. Didn't see this new one yet.
Yes, I do have more facial hair now.

Forty Rod

Had a '76 in one episode.  The sheriff told Jethro to "get the Henry off my saddle.  I shoots to the right."

'Twasn't a Henry and why did it shoot to the right?  Don't rural cops know how to adjust their sights?

Not many errors on guns in that show, but once in awile........!

I still think it's a '76. Looks way too big to be a '73.

Furlong;  I agree, it looks too big.  And what about that roundy-humpy shape at the back of the action?  Why the tang sight if its a .44-40?

Same reason one would be on a .45-60. For better accuracy.

That's an original 73 in the Texas ranger museum.
Don't know what was in the TV show, but people put tang sights on .44-40s too.

Sir Charles deMouton-Black

I use a Lyman tang sight on mine as well, but usually its seen on heavier things that can be tasked to reach out and touch some one or thing.

I still wonder about the roundy-humpy shape of the rear of the action.  Your '73 doesn't have that shape.

Looking at the pics from the site you posted it looks like a 76. I just posted the photo to show that the old timers used tang sights on .44-40s too.

That's Jethro's head!

Don't let him hear you referring to it that way.

Previous episodes shot in the dad's store showed a 73 hanging on the wall behind the counter.  Lord knows about the continuity but, it also looked like a 73 to me when he was pointing it in season opener.
