Looks like Mariposa and Calaveres county Took Floyd one year,but they wouldn't let him sign up,siad he was a Thumper not a Jumper..Now we are workin on a snake rattlin contest! Whos ever snake rattles loudest in 15 seconds wins,afterward we have a snake meat and frog legs fry

I got to spend 2 weeks wandering around in the Gold Country in late June & early July.  Wuz FUN 

The mining museum and the Mark Twain museum in Virginia City were GREAT.  Steam engine running on the Virgiania & Truckee R.R. too . . . Jamestown isn't to be missed by anyone who loves trains.  Lots of train scenes for Western Movies filmed there.  Hwy 49 north from Auburn was fun.  Also Dutch Flat was a neat place to visit.  Very siginficant point on the construction of the Railroad thru the Sierras.

Next time I'm out there I'll go to Portola, (used to live there) see the W.P. museum...

LOTS of small towns along hwys 49 & 70. Antique shops, cattle grazing & fishin' holes everywhere
Susanville, Greagle, Portola (bought last week's lotto tix there). Gold claims are scattered around too. A fun drive from Truckee to Susanville makin' the loop.

This here place was the "damnest" place I ever did see. Copperoplious.....It was a town square, just plopped out in the middle of nowhere...did get a nice wild rag there....Looks like a Disneyland setup. (old Cp I guess is down the road a bit..)

Looked up Copperopolis (dang that's hard to spell), on Wikpedia. Gives a little history, smack dab in the middle of gold country.
Most mining was copper, shippin' it out during both WW's proved expensive so they quit.
I'll bet this little town has more history than that, with a little more research.

here is another shot of the "new" copper..... I guess some developer had a vision a few years ago and built this town square, and had just seen that movie...."if you build it they will come....." so he did. and so far that is all there is. cute.
