Am reading an old book on the '66 by a fella named Parsons that states the Henry was first sold in Louisville, KY in July of 1862. William Prentiss of the Louisville Journal fame, and also with 2 sons in the CS Army, was a big fan and bought a few hundred of them to sale to other pro-union sympathizers. The Frazier Museum here has Prentiss' rifle on display, an engraved bronze frame that was supposedly carried by one of his sons. Wonder if any of these early examples sold In Louisville were iron frames. Anyone have any other info.

When I first read this I wondered why an arms maker in Connecticut would publicly debut a rifle in Louisville, until I realized that Louisville was a major shipping point of war material and men to points south due to both river and the established L&N railroad. Then it makes since to put the guns where those needing them would be hanging out.
