I am going to order a custom 6 cavity mould from LEE. It is going to be a .455 195 grain RNFP bullet with a .285 crimp to bullet nose length so it will feed Schofields in a 45 Colt gun. It is going to have a larger than normal lube groove but not as large as a true Big Lube(tm) bullet. If anyone else wants a copy of this mould please contact me at mwwhyte1 AT verizon.net  . Lee says they currently have a 6 week backlog. I plan on ordering these moulds in the next 2 weeks or so. Cost will be 70.00/mould, shipped to you.

Slim:

I'd definitely be interested as well.

I sent the drawing and check off to LEE today. I ordered a couple of extras, but LEE doesn't allow add-ons once the drawing is approved. So if you want one please e-mail and reserve one soon. This should be a good bullet for those who want to shoot Schofields in their 45 Colt guns, especially rifles, as I designed the nose to be long enough. I plan on using it in my wife's smokeless guns, but should be plenty of lube for most BP applications too. I have used the Big Lube(tm) 45's in her guns before with no problems at all.

I called LEE today and I am officially in line for production as of the 28th of last month. The nice lady said 6 weeks or less. Another GB over at castboolits was just finished in 4 weeks and was cut perfectly, so here's hoping mine goes as well.

Moulds are here! Less than 3 weeks, and the ones I cast this morning are exactly on spec.

Hey Slim,

My mold arrived today....wow that was fast!
Looks great, can't wait to make up some loads and see how they shoot.

I shot a 4 stage match today with my Henry trapper in 45 Colt. I used 45 Schofield brass, these bullets sized to .456 with my regular lube. No problem at all with the barrel losing accuracy, but still too much blowby to do the whole 4 stages. Had to pour some water on the carrier after stage 3. Fed just fine.

"but still too much blowby to do the whole 4 stages."

Slim,

Do you full-length resize your brass?
Since I started neck-sizing only, I've been getting a lot less blow-by.

That's a good idea, I'm going to try that on the next batch. I did order an extra one of these moulds if anybody needs one. 75.00 shipped to you.

Slim,

Before you make up a bunch, try chambering a couple in each of the firearms you'll use them in.
You want to make sure the ones fired in the rifle will fit the pistols and  vice-versa.

Did that already. I made up 3 rounds with very minimal neck sizing, just enough to pop out the primer. Comparing the different style of rounds, neck is .472  on both but at the base of the bullet section of the brass case(about halfway down) the original is .471 while the minimal-y sized round is .478. They chamber in both my pistols and Henry. Might help, can't hurt!

You're still casting the 250 grain bullets, so I have something to shoot, right?

250's! I'll be headed your way as soon as my back and arm heal.
