Howdy,

I'm considering a project to have the triggerguard & backstrap for a Colt 1860 plated with Silver or Nickel.
Has anyone had this done professionally? Source? Estimate of cost?

Also,
I've seen the Caldwell plating kits....sell for $35-$50....has anyone used these?

Any info appreciated!

Regards,
Slim

Hey Slim,

I've used Medallion lliquid silver kit on the backstrap/triggerguard of my Uberti 1849 pocket pistol. It worked very well and looks great.  Its not as durable as electroplating, but it looks the same and is easy to re-apply if it wears off.  I got mine here:

Thanks for the link...hadn't seen that outfit...can't be the cost of their system.
I, too have an 1849 and other models that could be plated....hum, the possibilities.

I bought and used the Caswell nickle plating kit and nickle plated 2 60 army and they came out good except for where I did not do very good prep. Get the kit you will like it

For a small project like this - any 'good' jewelry repairman/manufacturing jeweler can do it - and many cities also have well-established plating shops.

Take a good look at your Yellow Pages.

These guys often welcome a job like this - it's quite different from their normal work - so don't be afraid to ask.

Originals were silver plated, by the way.
