PIETTA KIRST CONVERTER RING?

Can anyone tell me what is the difference if any of the Pietta Kirst Gated Konverter Ring and the Uberti Kirst Gated Konverter Ring for the 1851 38LC Cylinders. I know the cylinders differ but the rings appear to be the same. I have compared and measured and they appear identical, Am I missing something?

Uberti doesn't use a Kirst Converter Ring for their 1851 conversion guns.  Uberti uses a Uberti engineered part.  Dimensionally, it may well be very close to the dimensions of a Kirst.  They are completely different parts.

Ah went back to your original post.  You asked about Pietta then switched to Uberti.  Who do you really want to know about??

The Kirst Uberti and Pietta rings are different because Pietta and Uberti use different dimensions from the centerline of the base pin to the top of the water table (top of frame directly below the base pin).  If they were they same do you think Kirst would make two different kits?

Other than dimensional differences, the Kirst backplate has ears at the bottom that form a "saddle" to prevent rotation, and the backplate is not secured to the breech  face of the revolver.  The R&D backplate requires drilling and tapping two #6-32 holes in the standing breech to secure the backplate to the revolver frame.  R &D sells or rents a fixture to spot the holes.

In the Remington types, the Kirst uses a different cylinder and the same backplate for the Uberti and the Pietta, the R&D uses the same cylinder lenght but different thickness backplates.  The Pietta has a longer cylinder.

Similar differences occur in the Colt types between the makers.

Uberti revolvers, as Pettifogger said, have different cylinder dimensions, rachet diameter and cylinder length among the differences.

The only difference between the Kirst  Pietta and Ubertie rings is the hieght of the "Foot"
The Foot is the flat at the botom that keeps the ring from turning in the revolver.

1 purchased a Kirst 1851 Ring with Loading gate without cylinder at a Gun Show but could not determine if it was for a Pietta Navy 1851 or a Uberti.

From your info it must be for a Pietta.
