I'm new here. Posted this elsewhere and the topic was locked. What are some good smokeless Cowboy loads for for 45 LC & 45 Schofield with 200 & 250 grain bullets? I am shooting a Pietta Remington with an R&D cylinder. I gather that it's safe with Cowboy loads.May need to use an indoor range for some shooting practice and they frown on BP loads.

Some powder choices would be TRAILBOSS and Bullsey.
Also you can try Adirondack Jack's 45 CAS Special brass, smaller case capaity for lighter, more efficient loads.

Hell-Er High Water

For the 45 Colt cartridge, after trying several powder/bullet combinations I have settled on a 200 gr RNFP lead bullet and 5.5 gr of Tightgroup powder.  I shoot this load in various CAS hand guns and long guns including a pair of 5-1/2" barreled Navy Arms Schofields and a 5-1/2" barreled Pietta 1858 with an R&D conversion cylinder.  The load has proved mild and accurate in all of my firearms.

Another load that is both accurate and mild in the same firearms is a 200 gr RNFP lead bullet and 4.6 gr of Clays powder.

This should give you a starting point for your guns.

Here is the Hodgdon website's chart for .45 LC.  If you look around you will find thw "cowboy load' chart, I'm sure

PS;  The hodgdon site doesn't seem to show cowboy action data, but the 2005 manual in my hand has it!  Besides hodgdon picking up Winchester powders, what else has changed?

GOOGLE reveals all!  But not ALL!  I could only access TRAILBOSS data!

Yep Go with TRAILBOSS easy to use and not to much recoil. :P

I second that on both items.  I use 4 grains of Trailboss and a 230 grain round nose bullet for my CB .45 Spl. loads, which are revolver only, thus the RN design, which I find to be a bit more accurate.  5.5 grains of TB w/ a 200 gr. RNFP bullet for my rifle .45 LC loads, which also work just as well in my pistols.  When using the cap and ball replicas along with a conversion cylinder, the short length CB45Spl really shines, plus save a ton of powder.

When not using TB then I use a similar amount of Clays, but I don't have the exact amount right off the top of my head.

Shoot safe and often.

Howdy Charles, the cowboy action data is still there, they sorta hide it. Go to "Loading Data" then scroll down past where it says "Click Here to Enter" then click on "(Click on the image below to print out the Basic Reloaders Manual)" That will take you to the PDF section of  "Basic Reloading Manual" Scroll down to page 30 to start the Cowboy Action Data. Hope this helps. Oh yea, I use Red Dot for all my smokeless loads. For the Cowboy 45 Special I use 4.3, for 45LC 5.7. Good Luck.

I use Titegroup as well; 200 gr RNFP.  Have run lots of rounds through with 5.0 to 5.5 grs for.  Currently I'm using 4.6 and love it.  I use the same load in my 4 3/4 pistols and 24" '92 rifle. A bit dirty but that's what a tumbler is for.  ;D   Added bonus is that works well in the shotgun loads also.

When the Titegroup runs out, I'm going back with Nitro 100 from Accurate Arms.  Excellent powder for both 45lc and shotgun-and their own literature backs that up.

Enjoy!
